Help: Software Availability Overview

Below is an overview of options available to students for obtaining software:

  • Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA)

The CS department and School of ISET each hold a MSDNAA subscription. Students are able to acquire most Microsoft titles (Office excluded) free of charge by either download or direct burn to disc in one of our labs. In order to be eligible to access the download area students must be currently enrolled in a credit course offered by ISET. Software and keys can be obtained from http://msdn.cs.sunyit.edu/.

  • Office 2007 Ultimate for Students @ $60 (Retail: $680)

Microsoft Office is not part of the MSDNAA program and is not otherwise available to students free of charge. Students may purchase the Ultimate Edition of MS office directly from Microsoft at a steep discount. Check out http://msdn.cs.sunyit.edu/office for more information.

  • Symantec AntiVirus

Symantec AntiVirus is freely available for all students and can be installed directly from the ITS Website (requires IE).

  • Windows Freeware software mirror

The CS Dept. mirrors freeware applications installed in the windows lab and other useful free programs at http://www.cs.sunyit.edu/network/downloads/.

  • Maple, Mathematica & Minitab

Students can obtain a free copy of Maple, Mathematica and Minitab from the ITS Helpdesk.

  • UBMicro student discounts

The University of Buffalo manages software licenses for the SUNY campuses. Students can take advantage of SUNY student discounts at the UBMicro store.

  • UNIX/Linux Operating system mirror in windows lab and on web

The CS Dept. maintains a mirror of most Linux/Unix distributions on our web site. A more complete collection can be found on the C014 windows lab PCs under D:\ISO-Images\.
